Why Coaching?

Coaching is a critical and essential part of the growth and development of Tulane leaders, offering seasoned professionals a focused leadership development avenue to enhance their leadership skills and achieve both personal and professional goals. In recent decades, technology and environmental challenges have reshaped the workforce, demanded innovation, driven progress, and intensified competition. To stay relevant in this ever-evolving landscape, individuals must continuously adapt, innovate, and streamline their approaches. Coaching has become increasingly valuable in this context, helping individuals navigate career transitions, personal changes, grow their businesses, and maintain stability in a constantly shifting environment.

TULI Certified Professional Coaches

All TULI Certified Professional Coaches have completed TULI’s Resilience and Leadership Coaching Certification Program, which includes over 75 hours of training and skill development by an International Coaching Federation (ICF) Master Coach. Additionally, all Coaches have pledged to uphold the ICF Code of Ethics, which “describes the ICF core values, ethical principles, and standards of behavior for all ICF Professionals”, therefore committing to serve Tulane at the highest standards of the coaching field.

Alignment with International Coaching Federation (ICF)

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”  When used appropriately, coaching closes the gap between an individual’s current performance or behaviors and their desired level, enabling participants to establish realistic pathways to successful outcomes in their own developmental journey.

Certified coaches are experts in establishing a relationship through a series of conversations with the purpose of supporting leaders to improve their performance or enhance their personal development or both, choosing their own goals and ways of doing it. According to recent research, coaching holds the promise of transformation, as it is the only method that inclines one to grow beyond surface issues (Collins, 2002; Hunt & Weintraub, 2007; Palmer & Whybrow, 2008).

Within the coaching context, the client experiences powerful questions, introspection, increased readiness, and needed space to re-frame their perspective (Stainer, 2016). Coaching then encourages clients to deepen their insights and translate those insights into action (Anderson & Anderson, 2005). Thus, by being in a coaching relationship, leaders address their specific development needs and learn how to inspire similar levels of commitment and growth in their followers.

Purpose of Coaching: To assist leaders in recognizing, realizing, and reaching their greatest, fullest, and most important of all, their TRUEST potential.

The Ultimate Objective: For leaders to be the absolute BEST version of themselves in every dimension of their personal and professional life.

Coaching Duration and Session Schedule

One-on-one (1:1) Coaching contracts require a six-month commitment with sessions scheduled every 3-4 weeks. The sessions are generally 60 minutes in length and can be conducted in-person (preferred) of via electronic in person engagement. At the end of the six months the sponsor, the client and coach will meet to review progress and determine if additional sessions are desired.
