About the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP)

 

Offered to Tulane University employees at the Manager level and above, the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is a nine-month leadership development experience designed for high-potential Tulane employees looking to expand their influence, take on greater leadership roles, and drive meaningful change. Participants gain critical leadership skills, engage in hands-on learning, and connect with a network of peers across the university.

Graduates of the ELP will receive a certificate and digital badge distinguishing them as members of a network of university leaders who are dedicated to the betterment and growth of Tulane University and who will be champions in leading future change initiatives in the Tulane community.

Each year, 30 participants are chosen to take part in this high-impact program, ensuring meaningful engagement, mentorship, and networking opportunities. The curriculum evolves annually to reflect the latest leadership research and organizational needs, preparing participants to thrive in Tulane’s ever-changing landscape.

 

 

 


Program Goals & Curriculum

The Emerging Leaders Program seeks to:

  1. Bring together a network of dedicated, high-potential Tulane employees;
  2. Provide Emerging Leaders the knowledge, skills, abilities, and leadership competencies, needed to be competitive and successful in today's organizational leadership landscape;
  3. Provide Emerging Leaders a more expansive view of Tulane University as an organization and community of faculty, staff, and students;
  4. Provide Emerging Leaders the space and time to engage in discussion around current leadership topics, challenges, and the opportunities and challenges that face Tulane University; 
  5. Provide Emerging Leaders the platform, resources, guidance, and encouragement to lead change initiatives in the Tulane and New Orleans community upon graduation.

In alignment with the goals of the program, the ELP curriculum is meticulously crafted to empower participants to navigate leadership opportunities at Tulane by blending foundational leadership principles, practical learning, and personalized coaching. Our curriculum stands out for its commitment to optimizing adult learning, incorporating a wide range of teaching and instructional techniques. This comprehensive approach fosters holistic development and transformative growth, equipping individuals with the adaptable skills needed for successful leadership at Tulane University and beyond.

Emerging Leaders Program Application

Each year, 30 participants are selected for this competitive, high-impact program. Applications open in the spring. Review the details below to check your eligibility and learn more about the application process.

Applicant Criteria

To be considered for the 2025-2026 ELP Cohort, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Employment and Tenure at Tulane. Applicants must by employed full-time and have at least 2 consecutive years of employment at Tulane University prior to the 25-26 Program Orientation on August 27, 2025.
  • Leadership Experience.
    • Applicants must have experience leading individuals, committees, and/or teams in their current role. This includes managing projects, overseeing team performance, mentoring colleagues, or holding positions of leadership within a department or team.
    • You do not have to be in a current supervisory role to qualify for the ELP.
    • Leadership experience must be confirmed by the applicant's Reporting Supervisor through a written verification of their leadership responsibilities in the required Supervisor Letter of Support as part of the application process.
  • Supervisor Support
    • Applicants mush have the full support of their Reporting Supervisor to participate in the program. This includes commitment to support the applicant's development throughout the program and to allow them to dedicate time to the program's requirements (workshops, Zoom meetings, Coaching sessions, asynchronous assignments, etc.)
  • Demonstrated Commitment to Growth and Development. Applicants must demonstrate a strong desire for personal and professional growth and be ready to enhance their leadership abilities through structured learning and development opportunities.
  • Current Role Alignment. Applicants must be employed full-time by Tulane University in a role where they have the opportunity to actively apply leadership skills, influence decision making, and contribute to the success of their team or department.

This questionnaire helps us understand your goals and how the program aligns with your development.

ELP Applicant Questionnaire

 

  • Letter of Support from Supervisor. A written endorsement from your supervisor confirming their support for your participation in all aspects of the program. This letter should highlight your leadership experience, leadership potential, contributions to your team, and how the ELP can further your growth.

ELP Letter of Support Template

  • Updated CV/Resumé. A current CV or resumé outlining your professional experience, skills, and accomplishments. This document provides insight into your career progression and leadership journey.

All materials must be prepared and submitted via the ELP Application Submission Form by the application deadline to be considered.

How to Apply

Applications to the ELP are submitted via Qualtrics.

  • Confirm Eligibility. Review the Applicant Criteria above to ensure you meet the requirements for the program.

 

  • Gather Required Materials. Prepare the following documents, ensuring they are saved as PDFs:

  • Submit Your Application.
    • Access the 2025-2026 ELP Application Form via the link below.
