Jennifer Calzada

I am the founding Director of Simulation Education at the Tulane Center for Advanced Medical Simulation & Team Training in the Tulane School of Medicine, which opened in January 2009. 

I worked in advertising and marketing for nearly 20 years and brought to Tulane national-level experience in marketing, communications, research, data management, leadership training, and business development. I have 16 years of experience at Tulane building a new department from scratch, including personnel development, strategic planning, setting policies and standards, revenue planning, and educating and supporting Tulane School of Medicine faculty. 

I am a frequent speaker at international healthcare and education conferences. I have served on multiple national and international industry committees and boards, including a Director-At-Large on the governing Board of Directors for the international healthcare simulation association. I serve on the Advisory Panel to the Team Training program of the American Hospital Association and have taught more than 70 teamwork and communication certification courses (TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer certification) to healthcare professionals all over the country. A big component of this certification is teaching healthcare professionals how to coach their colleagues when undertaking large change management projects. 

I have managed over 150 people over my 30+ year career, often working in different locations and states. People perform best when they are more coached than managed. Most adults know what their roles require but sometimes get stuck. As a coach, I help people get unstuck, help them focus on their strengths, see past the daily noise, and hold themselves accountable for what needs to be accomplished.
