Biography

Dr. Constance M. Gistand is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Tulane School of Medicine. After completing her residency training, she originally joined the academic faculty at Tulane University School of Medicine from 2001-2005.  During her prior appointment at Tulane University, Dr. Gistand served as the medical director of the Tulane Medicine Clinic. She devoted a significant portion of her time to resident supervision and teaching. She was also a recipient of the Harvard University-Commonwealth Fund Fellowship Award and received her Master’s Degree in Public Health from Harvard University. Since that time, Dr. Gistand has served in several key executive leadership roles such as the Chair of the Department of Medicine at the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System and Regional Medical Public Health Director/Administrator for the state of Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. Dr. Gistand returned to Tulane School of Medicine in 2022 as an academic hospital medicine physician where she serves a clinical faculty. Dr. Gistand trains, teaches, and mentors medical residents and medical students in this capacity. She is also actively involved in her local community as a health educator and frequently serves as a columnist on health-related matters for a local news organization.

Dr. Gistand’s academic and research interests center around graduate medical education, cardiovascular health, health equity, and social determinants of health.
